SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -The city of Springfield is warning residents to keep hazardous materials out of household trash following a fire Monday at the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill.
The Ebenezer Fire Protection District responded to the fire and found magnesium metal shavings burning on site. The cause of the fire remains unknown. The landfill reopened Tuesday.

Springfield Environmental Services said lithium-ion batteries are among the most common hazardous items improperly discarded in household trash.
