ALTOONA, Iowa– A complete lawn watering ban is in effect and Altoona is receiving water from a neighboring city amid water pump repairs.
The City of Altoona announced on July 14 that emergency water repairs were taking place at Water Treatment Plant No. 3 on its largest source water well. They also stated that the city was receiving water from Des Moines Water Works to help supplement the lost water in the meantime.

Des Moines Water Works provided this statement to WHO 13: “The City of Altoona has a longstanding agreement with Des Moines Water Works to purchase up to 1 million gallons of water per day. Due to an emergency, that amount has temporarily increased to up to 1.5 million gallons per day.” – Melissa Walker, Des Moines Water Works.
