New EBT app gives Arkansas SNAP recipients security tools against scammers

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — After months of hearing from Arkansas families who had their Summer EBT benefits stolen by scammers with no way to get that money back, there are now new security tools aimed at preventing it from happening again.

The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) is launching the new ‘ebtEDGE New’ app, giving SNAP recipients the ability to lock their EBT card when it’s not in use, block out-of-state transactions, and monitor balances and purchases in real time.

The app becomes available for Arkansas users on Monday, July 27, as the state transitions to a new EBT vendor. Officials say chip-enabled EBT cards will also be rolled out in the future to better protect against fraud…
