ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The long-standing towers in the International District are one step closer to getting a new look. While the remodel still has a way to go, the city of Albuquerque showed what progress has been made inside.

The San Mateo towers have sat vacant for many years, but developers started work on the shorter building earlier this year. Right now, their focus is on the interiors. “I mean, six months ago, I couldn’t even get past the front door on the property without walking through debris that was waist-high on the first floor of this building. So that speaks to how much it’s been cleared out that now it’s empty of all that debris,” said Terry Brunner, Agency Director for CABQ Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency.
