LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Photos obtained by 8 News Now reveal an incident involving a work truck leading up to a deadly workplace shooting on June 12 between two City of Las Vegas maintenance workers.
According to email records, city maintenance worker Brysen Kim, who is accused to shooting and killing his co-worker, Joey McLean, reported an incident on February 20 at the city’s downtown maintenance site.

Kim alerted his supervisors about a message written on McLean’s truck.
“On February 20, 2026, Brysen Kim reported that he observed the phrase ‘Keep It Aloha’ written on the passenger-side door of the vehicle assigned to Joey McLean,” Streets and Sanitation Supervisor Matt Cunanan emailed to fellow supervisors. “Brysen stated that, being Hawaiian, he felt the comment was directed toward him and his nationality in a negative or mocking manner,” Cunanan wrote. “Brysen further reported that whenever he walked past Joey McLean, Joey would repeatedly say, ‘bullying isn’t Pono’ and ‘stop bullying me.’ Brysen has a video recording of Joey saying ‘bullying isn’t Pono.’”
