NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – A North Augusta farmer is more than 10 months into a green card approval process that typically takes four, and his attorney has now filed a formal inquiry with the federal government seeking answers on the delay.
Clyde and Marilyn built their 100-acre farm out of wilderness over the course of their 56-year marriage. With no children, the couple planned to pass the operation to three longtime H-2A workers — Augustin, Mickey, and Arturo — who have worked on the farm for more than 22 years.
Process stalled at month 10
The final step in that transition requires permanent residency approval for the three men. That process normally takes four months. It is now at month 10, and until recently, Clyde’s attorney said he had no legal standing to inquire about the delay.
“If I were to pick up the phone and call them…they’re going to be like, oh, it’s within normal processing times,” attorney Paul said…
