Bicyclist dies nearly two weeks after Lake Worth hit-and-run

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A bicyclist died nearly two weeks after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on South Military Trail, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said 44-year-old Herbert Lopez Garcia was crossing South Military Trail from west to east near Cambridge Street in Lake Worth at about 9 p.m. on July 4.

According to the crash report, Garcia was crossing in the middle of the block and was not in a crosswalk when he entered the path of a northbound Toyota. The front of the vehicle struck the right side of the bicycle, throwing Garcia onto the roadway.

The driver continued north on South Military Trail without stopping or providing any information, investigators said…
