HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) — A Miami man is facing 26 felony charges after investigators say he stole about $60,000 worth of Garmin GPS units from boats in a month-long burglary spree stretching from Stuart to Hobe Sound.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday the arrest of 29-year-old Robert Esposito following a month-long investigation into a series of vessel burglaries reported throughout July.
According to investigators, Esposito targeted boats across Martin County, stealing marine electronics from numerous vessel owners. Detectives said the thefts resulted in an estimated $60,000 in stolen Garmin GPS units.
Esposito has been charged with 10 counts of grand theft, eight counts of burglary to a vessel and eight counts of traveling across county lines to commit a burglary, the sheriff’s office said.
