Recent school shootings in Baker spur creation of violence prevention program

In response to two recent shootings involving Baker schools, Mayor Darnell Waites has announced he will be partnering with local organizations to help prevent violence by connecting with the city’s youth.

The program focuses on students because most incidents involve youths between 14 and 18 years old, Waites said.

“We don’t have a lot of violence here in Baker,” Waites said. “We’ve always had things in place, but the game has changed, and we had to pretty much upgrade what we were doing.”…
