Storm Track 3 Forecast: Another stormy round tonight ahead of next heat wave

A new batch of storms is forming over Western Kansas this evening and especially the southwest part of the state.

Some of these storms could pack winds strong enough to reach severe storm status. Hail cannot be ruled out.

There is a Slight Risk circled for the area most likely for this to occur this evening. With time, these storms will evolve into a complex of rain and thunder, tracking eastward overnight into Friday morning.

Any residual clouds and rain to the east will impact afternoon temperatures tomorrow.

Spots to the southwest will cook again. A Heat Advisory is in effect through Friday evening. Harper County, Oklahoma, is under an Extreme Heat Warning.

Highs will make some big jumps this weekend as the heat dome comes back our direction. High temperatures across most, if not all, of the KSN viewing area by Sunday will hit the century mark. Monday looks to be the hottest with Tuesday a close second in this heated stretch. The triple digits may hang on next Wednesday near the Oklahoma state line before the heat breaks down the second half of next week.

There are a few more chances for rain beyond tonight’s complex that carries over into Friday morning. Friday afternoon into the evening, isolated showers and storms will bubble up from Southeast Kansas back toward Medicine Lodge and Woodward, Oklahoma.

Some model guidance hints at a stray pop-up shower Saturday afternoon before the heat ramps up late this weekend.

Northern Kansas early next week will have multiple disturbances tracking around the heat dome, sparking more rounds of rain. Once the heat breaks down mid to late next week, chances for rain will then start to improve for the southern half of the state.
