COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is partnering with law enforcement agencies across central Ohio this week to target reckless driving along Interstate 270, an effort aimed at reducing serious and fatal crashes on one of the region’s busiest highways.
Since the beginning of the year, about 800 crashes have been reported on I-270, according to the patrol. Officials said speed remains the leading factor in deadly crashes, while distracted and impaired driving also continue to contribute to serious collisions. During the enforcement initiative, troopers clocked one driver traveling 126 mph.
The enforcement effort comes as speeding continues to be a leading factor in deadly crashes across Ohio. From 2021 through 2025, the Ohio State Highway Patrol recorded 146,961 crashes involving drivers traveling at an unsafe speed.
