Massachusetts unveils renderings for Cape Cod’s new Sagamore Bridge

Massachusetts transportation officials have released new renderings of the future Sagamore Bridge, offering a closer look at the long-awaited replacement that will connect Cape Cod to the mainland.

The new bridge will be wider and longer than the existing structure and is designed to improve traffic flow for the millions of drivers who travel across the Cape Cod Canal each year. Plans call for 12-foot travel lanes in both directions.

The project will also include new features for cyclists and pedestrians, including a shared-use pathway and a scenic overlook area with views of the canal.

According to MassDOT, construction on the replacement bridge could begin by the end of next year. Once work starts, it is expected to take about five years before traffic can be shifted onto the new bridge, a milestone currently projected for around 2033…
