Small, Idaho County to discontinue licence plate readers while some Washington counties underscore their importance

Spokane, WA – In Idaho, east of Lewiston, the Clearwater County’s sheriff’s office said it will not renew its agreement for automated license reader cameras. the department said it doesn’t appear to be bringing enough value to the community.

The U.S. Census counted about 9,000 people living in Clearwater County, while Spokane County’s population was around 560,000 people.

In Spokane County, the sheriff’s office insists the automated license readers are important law enforcement tools, but new Washington state restrictions have temporarily disabled its license readers…
