HONOLULU (KHON2) — Nearly 200 hospitality and healthcare workers protested a planned luxury development at Ala Moana Center on July 23.
Members of UNITE HERE Local 5 held the event to urge developer BlackSand Capital to offer more affordable housing and lower rent.
“If they build these big condos, they’re gonna take away from us, the Hawaiian people because we need affordable housing,” said one of the rally attendees. “We need more of that.”
