TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A man was rescued by the Troy Fire Department from the Poestenkill Gorge on Friday night. Officials with the Office of Mayor Carmella Mantello said he was swept away by strong currents in combination with slippery rocks.

Mayor’s office officials said it was a tricky rescue for the responders due to the current and the overall terrain of the area. As a result, rescue crews used various ropes and swift water gear to execute the rescue.
The Troy Police Department also responded to the incident to assist the Troy Fire Department.

The mayor’s office is reminding the public that it is illegal to swim in the Poestenkill and it is also unsafe to do so.
