An estimated $6 billion data center planned for north Mobile County is expected to generate roughly $1.5 billion in sales tax revenue for state and county governments over the next two decades. It also will produce nearly $100 million a year in new property tax revenue for Mobile County and its public school system.
The figures, provided this week to AL.com by the Mobile Chamber, come about two weeks after Mobile County commissioners told a group of concerned residents there was nothing they could legally do to stop the Beacon Data Centers project from moving forward in an industrial area near unincorporated Calvert.
If those projections hold, the facility would increase Mobile County’s annual property tax collections by about 53%.
