Mass Casualty Incident Declared at Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy in Laurel

A mass casualty incident was declared Sunday afternoon at the Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy in Laurel after at least 18 people became ill from an unknown source.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the campus at 3200 Oak Hill Drive at approximately 3 p.m. for what was initially reported as a possible hazardous materials incident involving a carbon monoxide leak.

Three high-priority patients were transported to area hospitals. Emergency personnel later said at least 18 patients had been identified as crews continued assessing the campus…
