Within a short distance from Kansas City lies an abundance of ways to experience nature at Missouri state parks.
Missouri voters will be asked to decide whether or not to fund state parks on Aug. 4. Amendment 1 renews the existing Parks, Soils and Water Sales Tax of 0.1%.
Hiking, biking, horse-riding and swimming, the parks have public amenities just waiting to be used for free, especially during the summer and fall months. Additional amenities may cost.
Watkins Mill State Park
Watkins Mill State Park is located at 26600 Park Road North in Lawson, around a 40-minute drive northeast from KC. The park has 94 campsites, 74 of which have electrical hookups. The 100-acre lake has bass, catfish, crappie and sunfish for visitors to enjoy fishing. The lake is also usable for boating.
