FSIS Finding Prompts Maple Leaf Foods Bacon Recall

The U.S. subsidiary of a major Canadian meat processor is recalling two brands of bacon after products were found to have been imported without reinspection, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced late Friday.

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. of Lisle, Ill., issued a recall for two not ready-to-eat (NRTE) smoked bacon products in a quantity estimated at more than 12,000 pounds, distributed through Grocery Outlet in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. FSIS said that its “routine” inspection activities led to a finding that the packaged bacon was imported without benefit of import reinspection.
