HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Over three years after the Pactiv Evergreen paper mill closure in Canton, Haywood County is taking steps forward to help the economy recover, potentially providing two parcels of land to two local businesses at no cost.
Under General Statute 158-7.1, the county can take the two pieces of land and offer them to the local businesses to assist with economic development.
“These appropriations must be determined by the governing body of the city or county to increase the population, taxable property, agricultural industries, employment, industrial output, or business prospects of the city or county,” the statute states…
