LUBBOCK, Texas — During a Lubbock County Commissioner meeting on Monday, officials voted against making any salary adjustments for elected officials in a 4-1 vote.
After the vote, Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish apologized to elected officials, stating that Lubbock elected officials also feel the burden of inflation and that making incremental adjustments in their salaries should be a viable option. Judge Parrish is also worried that voting against salary adjustments could affect elected officials in the future.
“In my opinion, I think it’s negligent,” said Parrish. “As long as we don’t give salary adjustments and cost-of-living adjustments, at some point we’re going to have our elected officials making less money than their employees that work for them.”
