It only took a brush fire near one power pole to shut down electricity for thousands of homes across the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula areas Sunday afternoon.
At about 1 p.m. Sunday, Peninsula Light Co. announced that a fire on the Cushman Trail near Stinson Avenue had caused power outages in “the majority of territory,” in a social media post. The utility company serves over 30,000 member homes and businesses across west Pierce County, according to its website.
Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One spokesperson Patrick Phillips wrote in emails Tuesday that the grass around a power pole caught on fire. The cause is undetermined. Crews arrived on scene at 12:44 p.m. and extinguished the fire “shortly after power was secured,” he wrote…
