How did fire by one utility pole leave thousands near Gig Harbor without power?

It only took a brush fire near one power pole to shut down electricity for thousands of homes across the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula areas Sunday afternoon.

At about 1 p.m. Sunday, Peninsula Light Co. announced that a fire on the Cushman Trail near Stinson Avenue had caused power outages in “the majority of territory,” in a social media post. The utility company serves over 30,000 member homes and businesses across west Pierce County, according to its website.
