SWK EDC Reviews Regional Unemployment Rates, Future Plans

For the first time in months, June 2026 unemployment rates in Trigg, Christian and Todd counties — but moreso the first two — have garnered a little attention from regional officials, seeking causes and solutions for the future.

During Monday’s South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council board meeting, SWK EDC Executive Director Carter Hendricks confirmed that Christian County is currently at 5.9%, Trigg County is at 5.2% and Todd County is at 4% — meaning more than 5,400 people in the three-county spread have either recently filed for unemployment, or are actively seeking their next career.

Hendricks did note that several industries in this area continue to do nothing but boost up their production and employment opportunities, including U.S. Tobacco and the coming Kitchen Food Industries — which has a hiring event planned for Thursday, August 13, at Hopkinsville Community College…
