A dramatic cliff rescue in Girard stretched late into the night after a woman suffered a serious fall into a creek bed, prompting a large-scale response from emergency crews across the region.
The rescue began after a third-party caller reported that a middle-aged woman had fallen near the Elk Creek Access Point. The victim was located on private property off Locust Lane, between the Canadian National Railroad trestle and Interstate 90.
Rescuers then faced the difficult task of reaching the woman at the bottom of a 40-foot cliff in steep, rugged terrain. A rescue helicopter circled overhead as crews worked for hours to safely access and remove her from the ravine.
