A first look at the Carolina North development site

On Monday afternoon, members of the Carolina North Stakeholder Advisory Committee entered through the gates of the retired Horace Williams Airport by bus.

After riding down the 0.7-mile-long strip, the buses carrying the committee members parked and people spilled out onto the pavement. After taking pictures and talking, many then walked the length of the runway back to the entrance.

It was the first time the committee members had toured Horace Williams Airport, or the future site of Carolina North. The satellite campus will turn the 250 acres of grass, old buildings and asphalt into a “live, work, play and learning” space, located 1.6 miles north of UNC-Chapel Hill’s main campus…
