Kentucky (WKYT) – Straight-line winds from Monday night’s thunderstorms knocked out power across several areas, including Jessamine, Franklin, and Woodford counties. Around 3,800 Blue Grass Energy customers were without service at the height of the storm.
“It’s a lot of trees that are outside our maintained rights of way that have fallen over. And when it hits the power lines, unfortunately, that can break poles in addition to taking the lines down,” Vice President Denise Myers said.
How Blue Grass Energy prioritizes repairs
The utility follows a tiered approach when restoring service, addressing repairs that affect the largest number of customers first.
“You start big and work small. So you try to make the repairs that are going to get the most people on the quickest. And any type of emergency-type loads, like hospitals, nursing homes, that kind of thing, they’re priority too,” Myers said.
