Support for change, debate over details: Mobile considers new animal ordinance

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Mobile city leaders are considering a major overhaul of the city’s animal ordinance, a proposal supporters say would strengthen public safety and improve animal welfare while giving Animal Control more tools to address neglect and dangerous animals.

The proposed changes would increase fines for certain violations, expand Animal Control’s enforcement authority and update several sections of the city’s animal code. Supporters say the goal is to encourage responsible pet ownership while giving the city stronger enforcement options when problems arise.
