Toledo gets grant toward bike lane on Spielbusch

A state grant will help the city of Toledo create a bicycle lane on Spielbusch Avenue at the same time it plans to make bicycle lanes on nearby parts of Michigan and Erie streets permanent.

The $1,135,586 allocation, part of $72 million Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday for 33 projects statewide, will pay for 90 percent of a lane-reconfiguration project featuring a “protected bike facility” along Spielbusch, said Tori Lane, a spokesman for the Toledo Department of Transportation.

The Spielbusch lane will connect the existing bicycle-pedestrian path along Greenbelt Parkway with the bike lane along Michigan Street, Ms. Lane said. Construction is scheduled for 2029…
