PLEASANT HILL, Ore. – A teen driver died Monday after her car crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 58 near Rattlesnake Road, according to the Oregon State Police.
OSP officials said they responded at about 5:24 p.m. on July 27 to a three-vehicle fatal crash on Highway 58 near Rattlesnake Road. Leilani Kana’i Barto, 18, of Dallas was driving a gray Mazda 3 eastbound when she tried to pass other cars. Her car hit a westbound silver Toyota Highlander head-on, police said. The Highlander’s driver, a 74-year-old Eugene man, was hospitalized with serious injuries. A westbound Kenworth semi-truck then hit the Highlander. The truck driver, a 38-year-old Sutherlin man, wasn’t hurt.
Barto died at the scene. Investigators believe speed played a role in the crash…
