WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Cleanup is underway after a severe storm pushed across the DMV, leaving roads flooded and trees down.
The quick and fierce storms hit the Washington, D.C. region Tuesday afternoon with dark clouds, lightning and heavy winds. Tornado warnings were issued for parts of the DMV, as winds and rain picked up.
In Washington, D.C., a tree fell in the 3800 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW, leaving debris and tree branches scattered across the road. First responders placed crime scene tape around the fallen tree and blocked off the road.
Power outages reported in the DMV
The whipping winds knocked down the awning to the Mobil gas station on the corner of Georgia Avenue and Farragut Street NW. The awning fell on top of a van.
Over in Brookeville, a large tree crashed into a home, crushing part of the roof.
Flood waters also covered Brighton Dam Road in the Brookeville area. This comes days after heavy rain covered the road, and a woman was rescued from her car.
