Charlotte man found guilty of murder following confrontation at 2021 south Charlotte cookout

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte man was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of killing Selvin Yovani Lara-Reyes in 2021.

According to District Attorney Spencer Meriwether, 24-year-old Andy Garcia was convicted by a jury Wednesday for first-degree murder and was denied the possibility of parole. It concluded a trial that began on July 20.

Court records show the shooting took place at an apartment complex off of Sharon Lakes Road on March 31, 2021, when Garcia was 18. That’s when Lara-Reyes was having a cookout with family and friends at his apartment…
