DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – A fugitive wanted for kidnapping a minor in Florida is behind bars after a high-tech dragnet involving police drones and license plate readers tracked her to southeast Alabama.
Jenay Dominique Burns, 38, was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday just south of Dothan. Investigators with the Dothan Police Department and Houston County Sheriff’s Office—working alongside the U.S. Marshal Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force—coordinated the arrest.
The search began when Orlando police notified local authorities that Burns was in southeast Alabama. Burns was wanted in Orange County, Florida, for kidnapping a minor and probation revocation, and was believed to be traveling with an endangered child under the age of 10.
Florida investigators utilized network License Plate Readers, often called FLOCK cameras, to confirm Burns’ vehicle had entered the Dothan area. Dothan police drone operators then deployed unmanned aircraft to sweep the city, quickly spotting Burns’ red Nissan Rogue traveling down West Main Street.
Officers flooded the area and executed a tactical traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 231 South and Highway 109. Burns was arrested on site and booked into the Houston County Jail, where she remains held without bond awaiting extradition back to Florida…
