ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A mother bear and cub that were captured by wildlife officials in northwest Albuquerque were returned to the wild.

The New Mexico Department of Wildlife staff captured the bears on Sunday in a neighborhood near the intersection of Arroyo Vista Boulevard NW and Interstate 40. Staff then evaluated the bears and on Monday released them in a “more suitable habitat away from populated areas,” New Mexico Department of Wildlife Communications Director Darren Vaughan stated in an email.
The department issued a reminder to the community to help keep bears and themselves safe by storing garbage in a secured area, not feeding pets outdoors, removing bird feeders at times when bears are active, and keeping yards clean of fruit and other items that will attract bears…
