(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Thanks to an active monsoon pattern, Southern Colorado has seen several rounds of beneficial rainfall over the past few days. While it may seem like it’s been raining a lot lately, the FOX21 Storm team dived into the water stats and how much precipitation we have really seen this year thus far.
As of Wednesday, July 29, Colorado Springs picked up 6.04 inches of precipitation during the current year. That’s still well below the average of 9.89 inches, leaving the city with a rainfall deficit of 3.85 inches.
Pueblo tells a different story. The Pueblo airport received 7.50 inches of precipitation this water year, almost exactly matching its average of 7.52 inches. That’s a deficit of just 0.02 inches. However, Pueblo’s numbers come with an important caveat.
A single storm on June 23 dumped 2.62 inches of rain in just an hour and a half. That one event accounted for more than one third of Pueblo’s total precipitation for the water year. It also shattered the daily rainfall record, easily passing the previous mark of 0.41 inches that had stood since 1941!…
