ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Bishop of Rochester Reverend John Bonnici released a letter criticizing the Medical Aid in Dying Act.
Starting on August 5, medical aid in dying will be available to New York residents who have less than six months to live due to a terminal illness. If a patient chooses this option, they will be given medication that hastens death when self-administered.
In his letter, Bishop Bonnici says this is “contrary to the dignity of the human person and to God’s loving plan for us.” He is calling for New Yorkers to embrace a Culture of Life instead of a “Culture of Death.”…
