STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Richmond County Savings Foundation presented a $10,000 grant to Richmond Engine Co. No. 1 — one of Staten Island’s oldest volunteer fire companies — on Wednesday to support its emergency response and community protection work on Staten Island.
The grant, recommended to the Foundation by New York City Council member David Carr, was presented by Jaclyn Gerard, program officer at the Richmond County Savings Foundation. Steve White, chief of the engine company, accepted the grant during a presentation at the foundation’s Bloomfield office. “Our volunteer fire companies, like Richmond Engine, have a vital role to play in protecting Staten Islanders and also in preserving a part of our borough’s history,” Carr said. “I am happy to support them and help them get the funding they need. ”
Cesar J. Claro, executive director of the Richmond County Savings Foundation, said the foundation proudly continues supporting the important work of Richmond Engine Co. No. 1. “Their dedicated volunteers provide an invaluable service to our community and we are pleased to support their mission,” Claro said. “We have been honored to provide funding to the firehouse in the past and are happy to continue that partnership.”
White said he is thankful for the grant.
