One dead after fire at Haysville fourplex

HAYSVILLE, Kan. (KWCH) – A person is dead after a fire at a fourplex in Haysville, just south of Wichita. Sedgwick County Emergency Communications confirmed it happened in the 100 block of W. Sarah Lane, near Main Street. The initial call came out around 12:45 a.m. Thursday, with reports of a fire and a person trapped.

Firefighters with Sedgwick County Fire District 1 arrived to find one of the four units on fire and entered the building. They found a person dead inside that unit. The other three units were vacant and not affected by the fire. As of 6 a.m. Thursday, authorities have not released the identity of the person who died. On scene, firefighters noted the burned unit had a handicap ramp outside.

Firefighters said they knocked the fire down quickly, but with the heat still being a factor, they rotated crews in and out to keep them hydrated and safe. With the Sedgwick County Fire Department, Deputy Chief of Operations Ray Hensley said they’re focused on protecting firefighters on scene…
