A new online petition is asking the Chelsea City Council to consider replacing the city’s long-standing orange trash bag program with curbside garbage carts similar to those used in many neighboring communities.
The Petition
The Change.org petition, started by resident Dani Hallsell, had collected 255 signatures as of this writing. It calls on the city to discontinue the required orange garbage bags and instead adopt a system using wheeled, lidded trash carts.
The petition argues that the orange bag system, introduced about 20 years ago to encourage recycling, has outlived its original purpose.
