Wednesday’s heat is gone. What replaced it is not much easier to deal with.
After feels-like temperatures between 100 and 111 degrees baked parts of Central Florida on Wednesday, the FOX 35 Storm Team issued a Storm Alert for today as waves of heavy rain and scattered storms move through the region. The heat index may have dropped, but the flooding risk is the story now.
The first round of storms is already developing this morning, with spotty downpours possible through midday. The heavier, more organized activity is expected to arrive between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m., driven by a weak front dipping south that is pulling rain coverage upward. Hit-and-miss storms could persist into the overnight hours.
Why slow-moving storms are the real concern
Speed matters in weather more than most people realize. Fast-moving storms drop rain quickly and move on. The storms arriving today and through the weekend are expected to move slowly, which means they will sit over the same neighborhoods and keep dropping water long after a fast-moving cell would have cleared out.
