The opening night of fair week racing at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway delivered an absolute dandy, as a count of 26 Karl Chevrolet Premier Late Models showed up to play on Wednesday night, July 29th, as the tour headlined a night that also featured IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Hobby Stocks, and Crown Vics.
There were four heat races for the Karl Chevrolet Premier Late Models. Those heat race dubs went to Chad Simpson, Matt Ryan, CJ Horn, and Jerry King.
When feature time arrived, Chad Simpson showed just why he remains one of the most respected Late Model drivers in the Midwest. Starting 5th after winning his heat race, Simpson wasted little time establishing himself as one of the cars to beat, as it only took a handful of laps for the driver of the 25 to find himself up front.
