Water has been flowing in and out of Louisville’s Hecla Lake, a process expected to continue into next week as Boulder County uses the lake to support irrigation at 7th Generation Farm at Harney-Lastoka Open Space. In an announcement this week, the city warned nearby community members they might hear noise from equipment while the water pumping operations are in progress.
Once the water transfer is complete, Hecla Lake will “likely be empty again,” says the city’s announcement.
Hecla Lake is owned and managed by the city of Louisville as part of its open space system. The city and Boulder County Parks & Open Space have an agreement that allows the county to temporarily transfer water from Hecla Lake to the nearby 7th Generation Farm to support its agricultural operations each year…
