ASHEVILLE, NC — A 16-year-old North Carolina girl and a 28-year-old man have been charged in the deaths of three family members found shot inside a Fairview home, according to authorities. Deputies say the suspects were later arrested in Tennessee after a multistate search.
The Discovery
Buncombe County deputies were called to a welfare check at the Ashworth Drive home around 7:15 p.m. Thursday after relatives said they had not heard from the people inside. Officials said deputies had already tried two earlier checks during the week, but they did not have enough evidence of an emergency to force entry until the third visit.
When deputies got inside, they found the bodies of Travis Eugene Grant, 41, Kimberly Michelle Grant, 42, and Sharon Harwood Grant, 66. Authorities said all three died from gunshot wounds.
Charges Filed
Star Grant, 16, and Devan O’Neil Loving, 28, were each charged with three counts of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy to commit murder. The sheriff’s office said Grant is being charged as an adult because of the seriousness of the case.
In North Carolina, those are Class A felonies that can carry life imprisonment or the death penalty.
Arrest In Tennessee
Investigators said Grant was the daughter of Travis and Kimberly Grant and the granddaughter of Sharon Grant.
