With adults 65 and older expected to outnumber children by 2030, Washtenaw County is seeking community input as it develops a long-term strategy for its voter-approved Older Persons Millage. During a town hall at the Dexter Senior Center, residents asked questions and offered feedback while celebrating the first anniversary of the center’s new facility, whose operating costs are supported by the millage.
The meeting featured Washtenaw County Commissioner Jason Maciejewski and Office of Aging Services Director Shannon Effler who outlined how the county is implementing the millage and gathering public input as it develops a strategic plan for future spending. Maciejewski said the county created the director position to help ensure millage dollars are allocated strategically and remain accountable to taxpayers.
