No Deal Yet — Florida’s UHealth Goes Out of Network With UnitedHealthcare Tonight Unless Something Changes Today

The deadline is here.

After months of negotiations, five prior extensions at NewYork-Presbyterian, and weeks of public statements from both sides, July 31 has arrived. And as of this morning, UHealth and UnitedHealthcare have not announced a deal.

If nothing changes today, UHealth — the University of Miami Health System — goes out of network for most UnitedHealthcare members starting August 1, 2026.

What This Means for South Florida UHC Members

UHealth is not a typical community hospital. It is South Florida’s only academic medical center.

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute — ranked number one in the nation for eye care — is part of UHealth. So is Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated cancer center in South Florida. Patients there are often in active treatment for conditions that have no equivalent in-network alternative in the region…
