For nearly four months, David Anthony Burke’s world has been confined to a single jail cell, where his days unfold under constant surveillance and isolation. His new reality is measured in scheduled welfare checks, meal trays delivered to his unit and, most recently, pre-dawn transports to and from downtown court for a five-day preliminary hearing that began before sunrise each morning.
Since his April 16 arrest, Burke has been housed inside the Los Angeles County Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Prosecutors allege he murdered 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez on April 23, 2025, and later unlawfully mutilated her remains.
“The inmates housed there have mental health needs and are kept apart from other inmates,” a source familiar with Burke’s housing assignment exclusively tells PEOPLE.
Burke, who is charged with first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 and unlawful mutilation of human remains, has adapted to the regimented environment with little incident, according to the source.
