The National Weather Service office in Hanford has issued a heat advisory for the San Joaquin Valley and adjacent foothills that will be in effect from noon Saturday to Monday evening.
Afternoon high temperatures are expected to reach as high as 108 degrees for portions of the valley, with widespread high temps around 105. The NWS HeatRisk index, which measures the threat of intense heat to people, ranges from moderate to major across the region. The advisory blankets a wide swath of the San Joaquin Valley, including Fresno, Merced, Bakersfield, Visalia, Madera and Hanford.
Overnight relief will be more limited than normal. Low temperatures are expected to dip only to the upper 60s on the valley floor, and remain as high as the low 80s in some higher foothill areas.
