Ground broken on Kalamazoo Indoor Sports Facility project

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Ground was broken Friday on the Kalamazoo Indoor Sports Facility.

Shovels officially hit the ground at 10 a.m. on the site where the facility is set to be built — Westgate Drive near the US-131 and M-43 interchange just outside Kalamazoo, in Oshtemo Township.

Kalamazoo County approves new youth sports facility location

When complete, the 140,000-square-foot venue will feature eight full-sized basketball courts which can be converted into volleyball courts. It will also include a 200-by-85-foot indoor turf field, flex rooms, a lobby and a cafe with seating, according to the Kalamazoo County Event Center Assessment District Authority.

The event center is coming together after four years of work between county and city government and business owners. It is aimed at boosting sports tourism and attract regional and national tournaments…
