The six way intersection known as the “San Vicente Asterisk,” where San Vicente Boulevard meets Olympic Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, remains widely recognized as one of the most challenging traffic bottlenecks in Los Angeles. Departing from traditional grid patterns, the diagonal alignment of San Vicente Boulevard, a historic remnant of the former Pacific Electric rail corridor forces drivers into consecutive stops across six lanes of traffic. The resulting congestion causes daily travel delays, hazardous pedestrian conditions, and elevated noise levels through the Mid City corridor, making the location a primary target for urban redesign.
