There are plenty of things that can keep police officers busy on a summer weekend, but illegal sideshows continue to rank near the top of the list in many cities. While spectators may see them as entertainment, law enforcement agencies say they often lead to dangerous driving, crashes, and roads being taken over by crowds.
That’s why the Sacramento Police Department spent two nights focusing almost entirely on shutting that activity down. Rather than waiting for sideshows to develop, officers took a proactive approach by looking for violations before larger gatherings could form.
