Phoenix man who became visually impaired finds purpose selling homemade tortillas

PHOENIX — After losing his vision following a medical emergency, Eliud Villa Garcia refused to let the setback define him.

Instead, the Phoenix resident taught himself how to make homemade flour tortillas by touch and now spends five days a week selling them on the side of the road, helping support his family while finding a renewed sense of purpose.

Villa Garcia said everything changed in 2022 when what began as pain in the back of his head quickly escalated…
